Description

Sydney Maseko Needs a Lesson The individual depicted in the accompanying image, one Sydney Maseko who styles himself a legal practitioner, has become a figure of considerable notoriety. S’swebhu Newspaper was conceived as a bulwark for the preservation of journalistic ideals and the unwavering integrity of those who pursue reportage for the edification of the international community. When a member of this sacred fraternity finds themselves beleaguered, as has been the lamentable plight of senior journalists and editors, we intervene with vigour and resolve to effectuate their protection. It is entirely unconscionable that journalists be subjected to persecution for information not personally disseminated by them but rather published under the imprimatur of their employing newspapers and broadcasting entities. It has come to our attention, with profound consternation, that there is a persistent and egregious maltreatment of our distinguished colleague, Mfanukhona Nkambule, at the hands of Sydney Maseko. Maseko appears undeterred in his flagrant violations of the Computer Crime and Cybercrime Act, 2002. Without Nkambule’s acquiescence, we are reliably informed, Sydney, a professed adherent of the Jericho Church, has appropriated Nkambule’s likeness as his Facebook profile image, a patent contravention of Facebook's Community Standards. Nkambule’s sole ‘transgression’, it would seem, is the unsubstantiated conviction by Maseko that he is the intellectual architect behind S’swebhu Newspaper, a belief amplified when we undertook investigative reports concerning Maseko, especially after reminding him that it is procedurally unsound to presumptuously declare the release date of Mr. Mthandeni Dube from incarceration. Maseko, whose comportment is emblematic of chronic belligerence, has systematically harassed emaSwati across digital platforms, displaying an obstinate refusal to accept counsel, manifesting disdain for dissent and unceremoniously blocking interlocutors who espouse contrary views. Specifically regarding Nkambule, intelligence reaching us indicates that these transgressions predate even the inception of S’swebhu in July 2025. We earnestly exhort emaSwati to appreciate that journalists do not publish in their personal capacities, but author reportage which is subsequently vetted and issued by their superiors. Thus, attributing blame to individuals for the broader actions of media establishments is a manifest injustice. It is precisely for this reason that legal redress is not ordinarily sought against journalists in their personal capacity as their actions are circumscribed by, and executed according to, the mandates of their employers. The relentless onslaught against Nkambule by Sydney Maseko is, therefore, wholly unwarranted. Must we surmise that Nkambule’s prose possesses such profound potency as to disrupt, singlehandedly, the intellectual equilibrium of individuals such as Maseko? It also remains undetermined whether Sydney Maseko is a duly admitted attorney in South Africa, where he purports to practise. The Law Society of South Africa is to furnish us with records if any exist regarding his credentials. On the political front, it is established that Maseko has formally resigned from both the African United Democratic Party (AUDP) and the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO), organisations in which he previously held membership. Full details in the coming days.
