Their iconic woolly coat was a survival masterpiece. It wasn’t just a single layer of fur—they had a dual system. The outer layer consisted of coarse guard hairs up to 3 feet long, while underneath was a dense, shorter undercoat for insulation. Together, this could keep them warm in temperatures as low as -50°C (-58°F).
